Mayor Michael Bloomberg's executive budget released Friday shows a $4-billion deficit for 2010 -- a huge fiscal gap that he proposed addressing with a city sales tax hike and perhaps more than 20,000 job cuts.

In his presentation Friday, the mayor painted a bleak economic picture, saying Wall Street firms are expected to lose $47.2 billion in 2008 and more this year.

The city is also now projected to lose nearly 300,000 jobs through 2010. About 46,000 will come from the financial sector.

In explaining why cuts in city jobs were on the table, the mayor said "you can only get so much blood out of a stone" through budget cuts and other measures.

The new and up-coming Resistance Retribution along with its newest features included:
Resistance: Retribution will feature 8-player Online Multiplayer, via infrastructure. The game will offer 8-player matches with modes that include Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation.
The aiming system is designed differently, as instead of pressing
buttons to lock against cover, it will automatically lock the player to
cover when he or she goes near cover. Aim assist, as observed in Resistance: Fall Of Man, will be present in Retribution. Retribution will feature new characters and weapons, as well as a non-replenishing life bar.

January 16, 2009 - Wouldn't it be cool if you could have a phone that was as much about playing games as it was talking to your friends? Maybe with cutting edge graphics, WiFi multiplayer and support from major developers!?!? Yeah well, keep dreaming. IGN has learned that a proposal by Sony Ericsson to Sony late last year concerning the use of the PlayStation brand to develop a PSP-type phone has been denied.

Apparently, Sony Ericsson was in the planning stages of developing a gaming focused phone, looking to capitalize on the huge growth that the gaming sector has experienced the last few years. Circuit City announced today it will liquidate all remaining 567 US
stores after failing to find a buyer or figure out a refinancing deal,
reports the AP. The nation's second-largest electronics retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late last year, at the time it held 5-10% of the US video game market.

Consumers
should keep an eye out for any sales following the announcement. No
word on how this will affect game pre-orders, but we strongly recommend
trying to get your money back, like, now.
